Shut Off the Lights This Saturday to Support the Planet

A little goes a long way. And when it comes to tackling the climate crisis, every little bit does in fact help.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) hopes to spread that message on Saturday, March 28, with Earth Hour 2009. For just one hour (at 8:30 p.m. your local time), millions of people, businesses, and organizations around the world will send their message of support for climate change action by turning off their lights and other power sources.

Last year’s event had more than 50 million participants, including about 400 cities on all seven continents. Such landmarks as the Sears Tower in Chicago, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Coliseum in Rome, and the Sydney Opera House went dark.

To sign up, log onto http://www.earthhourus.org/. If you are interested in getting co-workers, community groups, or your city to take part, the site offers tool kits to help you through the process. Participants are encouraged to turn off non-essential lighting, which may include computers, decorative lights, TVs, overhead lighting, and outdoor lighting that is not needed for safety reasons.

Through your support of Earth Hour 2009, the WWF says it plans to show government officials that action is needed to solve the climate crisis and that people all over the world have united to demand attention for this important global issue.

Places I'd Rather Be

I saw this topic on another blog and thought it was really cool. And since it's the part of winter when you really wish you had hibernated in Hawaii instead, I thought it might cheer me up. Where I'd rather be:

somewhere really warm

in zen heaven

in dance class. Actually since we're playing pretend:

in a good economy

my very own home sweet home. maybe one day ....

the good ol' days of studying at the library. I'm such a nerd that I'd love to be a professional student and do nothing but study all day.

ahhhhh relaxation

a comfty bed. This bed looks so comfortable I think I'll just go to bed :)

Lost

How did I get here?
Where was I headed?
Which way do I go?
This is what I’ve always dreaded

Taking a big adventure without a map
and getting off track
I’ve been gone too long and gone too far
to just head back

Fear prevents me from going any further
even though my treasure is right around the bend
For the first time in my life, I’ve lost
and not sure how it is all going to end

Can someone help me?
Kindly guide me back onto course?
I’ve lost all my determination and motivation
Traits that used to make me such a force

I have been sucked dry and am just a shell
How do I find myself again?
I’m so tired and worn out, the task at hand
seems so hard to begin

Where do I go from here?
I don’t know where I fit in anymore
Out of one world, not quite belonging to any other
There are locks on all the doors

How do I move on?
Can I just sit here and rest awhile?
Will my ship come back for me?
I’ve been walking for miles

Yes, I’ll just sit down right here
and wait for someone to come
Then I can follow them out of these woods
I haven’t seen anyone yet … but surely they will come

My First Blog!

So I'm a blog virgin. I know in this age of great technology, it's not cool to admit such a thing because even my mother's friends are on Facebook. It says less about my computer skills and more about my personality though. I'm a private person and don't like putting all of my business out there. But I'm at a crossroads in my life and to become the person I want to be, I have to take a few risks. I hope that blogging helps me open up a little and gives me the voice and outlet that I've been missing. Because just like anything scary, it gets easier the more you do it, right? Thanks for coming along for the ride my fellow bloggers!
